Vanilla and Cream lived peacefully in Mobotropolis on Westside Island. But six years after her daughter's birth, Dr. Eggman kidnapped Vanilla and her daughter and held them hostage to Sonic the Hedgehog. Unfortunately, Sonic at first only managed to rescue Cream, who was determined to rescue her mother. Soon, Vanilla was freed and reunited with her daughter, who was overjoyed. But Eggman had another trick up his sleeve and snatched Vanilla back soon after. However, Super Sonic managed to save her again and defeat the doctor. Cream and her mother went back to living peacefully and Vanilla was grateful to Sonic ever since. (VG: SAd2; StH: #257)
Later on, Vanilla took Cream and Cheese to the beach for some fun. Instead, they found the largely damaged Gemerl laying helplessly in the sand. Seeing this, Vanilla took the robot to Tails's workshop, who repaired the robot and gave him a good personality. She then took Gemerl with her to live in their cottage with Cream, Cheese and Chocola so that he could live a peaceful, happy life. While still living comfortably with Gemerl and her family, Cream returned one day with a new friend, Blaze the Cat, whom she had found on the ground earlier. Vanilla insisted that the reluctant princess stay for tea, which she eventually did and explained her story over the table. Vanilla advised her to see Sonic the Hedgehog for help and she allowed Cream to accompany her on her journey. (VG: SAd3, SR)
The Shattered World Crisis
Vanilla was mentioned by Cream during the beginnings of the Shattered World Crisis, who expressed fear that her mother would've probably been worrying about her due to her sudden disappearance to the Sol Zone earlier. After the Freedom Fighters rescued the citizens of Station Square, Vanilla and King Acorn were brought to communication in which Cream assured her that she was fine. Vanilla told her to stay close to the Freedom Fighters and that she'll look after Chocola with Gemerl's help, two which the rabbits bid their goodbyes and Vanilla left the transmission to the King. Later, Vaniilla was called by her daughter to send Gemerl to help aid her and her friends during M'egga Man's rampage through the city. (StH: #256, #257, #273)
Vanilla is very demure and polite, and very well-versed in manners and proper etiquette. She hates to impose requests on people, never wanting to cause any trouble for anyone. However, she seems slightly uncomfortable when taken out of her element. She is very loving and kind, and is shown to be a very concerned parent, but will allow her daughter to go into dangerous situations if someone is there to hold her hand. She also seems fond of Chao, or merely appreciates how much her daughter cares for them.
She also is incredibly kind and hospitable to others and is willing to let anyone into her home and tend to their needs, from food to clothing to a place to sleep. She balances being a good mother and being a good friend surprisingly well.
Vanilla is a cream-coloured rabbit with a white muzzle, brown eyes and a tuft of light brown/orange hair. She has light brown/orange markings around her eyes and on the ends of her lopped ears. She wears a long light pink/purple dress with a white trim and a fitted burgundy vest, an orange ascot, white gloves with gold cufflinks, and low-heeled burgundy shoes.
- Vanilla is named after the flavour extracted from the vanilla bean, commonly used in desserts.
- Vanilla is the only parent to a Sega character in the series who actually originates from the video games (and by extension from Sega themselves) instead of being created for the comic. She is also the only known parent, along with King Acorn to survive the Super Genesis Wave.
