How does an article become "Article of the week"? Do you choose one at random or just select one of the more important characters?Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:34, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Pretty much I go through articles that are either completed or really well written. Then I make sure it isn't one that has already been an Article of the Week. I'd prefer to develop a better system, maybe have a page for it where people could vote or nominate articles. Haven't gotten around to it, and thus far no one seems to have complained. [edit] Main page layout update

Hullo! I am Kirkburn, your friendly local Wikia Gaming Helper!

Hopefully you have read about the skin and ad changes at Wikia's New Style on Central Wikia. If not, I hope you'll have a look.

One of the changes is a block of two ads on each main page. It's possible that they won't always show up, but to ensure your main page continues to work properly when they do, you need to update your main page column formatting code with new column tags.

I have drafted a main page using the new tags on User:Kirkburn/Dev which I hope you can take a look at - feel free to make a copy and edit it. Though the layout may seem restrictive at first, there really is a fair amount you can do with them - for example see these customized main pages - Muppet Wiki, WoWWiki, FFXIclopedia. You may want to chat with your wiki community about what direction to take with a new main page.

If you encounter any problems with the new tags, please let us know.

I would like to switch the page by the end of the week - the only problem I forsee is the browse banner. It may be too wide for smaller monitors. Anyone have ideas how to improve? Reduce the image size perhaps, or reformat slightly? Kirkburn (talk) 02:10, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Where exactly are these two ads going to show up? Why not put the ads at the bottom of the page so they don't effect things on the sides, top or middle? - Dimitri the Echidna 14:56, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

One above the page (as currently shown on the main page), and one top-right as shown on the dev page. Unfortunately they do need to be near the top, as advertisers pay best for ads that appear "above the fold" - that is, without scrolling. By having two ads on the main page in this position, it means you can have better quality ads, and we can reduce the number of ads elsewhere on the wiki. It's not ideal, but it is necessary so Wikia can continue giving the support it does. Kirkburn (talk) 09:45, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Morning! I have switched to the new layout, and made some updates. I hope it looks good! All the info from the old layout is still there, but I have made some tweaks to the code to make it easier to use. (The extended comments do not show in the produced HTML). As I have been notified, it has been reverted. This is not a huge problem, but you must realise, the column tags are there to ensure your page does not break. The second ad on the main page won't be going away, so be careful what it does to the layout. I have restored User:Kirkburn/Dev minus the gaming footer in case you want to use it for further development (I may come back and tweak it). Kirkburn (talk) 18:17, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

The one of the Echidnas is good, but I think the panel showing the residents of New Mobotropolis rallying behind Sally in StH: #182 might be better since it shows different species instead of the same one. A good point. I threw it on there because it was a step up from just using Nack the Weasel, haha. I'd like to find an image of numerous Mobian species (preferably with an echidna in the mix) that's well drawn, but this might be hard to come by. - Dimitri the Echidna 20:39, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I'll upload it now and run it by you when I'm finished. I saw a possible alternative image when I saw some scans of the comic on YouTube. It was when all those captured the in the Egg Grape Chambers had been freed and where standing all together in a group. I would use this but the characters in the background are so small you can't even really make them out, so it sort of defeats the purpose. I would prefer to have a mixed-Mobian image for that though. - Dimitri the Echidna 08:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

While I see where you're coming from, the article itself isn't one of the more significant articles on the web site. I try to stick to more large-scale and popular articles, or really well-written ones for the Articles of the Week. You think deleting those templates is housecleaning? You think those templates are unused? Those are SOURCE templates. They're used in the creation of other templates, which are used in others. It's a cycle. It's like Template:! That's THE most important template possible. It's for the | symbol, which is used in every MediaWiki template. Don't mess with the templates. Calm down, I just created that template on this website while trying to import a template from Sonic News Network. All of the other templates work fine, and worked before I created that template. I have created a new template (made specifically for groups) that both I and Dimitri think would be good, but would like consensus from everybody first, so please post your views and opinions on if you think my group template is a good idea. It is currently featuring Team Dark, but could be used for other groups like the Knothole Freedom Fighters, various other Freedom Fighters groups, the Chaotix, the Wolf Pack, the Destructix, the Suppression Squad/Anti Freedom Fighters, the Babylon Rogues, the Brotherhood of Guardians, and the Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad.Fairfieldfencer FFF 19:39, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Some of you may have noticed at the bottom of pages there are advertisments for other wikis, but ours seems to be a little mixed up. Instead of displaying a comic issue or something like that, he have part of the logo of the video game Sonic and the Black Knight, which should be for the Sonic News Network while ours should be something like the cover of the 200th Sonic the Hedgehog issue.Fairfieldfencer FFF 09:54, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I haven't even seen an ad for our wikia yet. But if it's true that it's using something from one of the games, that ought to be changed. I should probably contact the wikia people about it.
