Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal Digital Comic is a promotional 30-panel comic story which can be unlocked in the game Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS.
Handled by the same creative team as the Archie Sonic Boom comic series, it serves as a prelude leading into the games opening cutscene. All pages are in a letterbox format to fit the 3DS screen. The comic is available to read from the get-go and can be accessed via Sonic Hut in the in-game map.
Long ago, Lyric and his robotic minions attacked the temple of the Lost Crystal of Power, an immense source of power that could make Lyric invincible. However, Lyric's fellow Ancients anticipated his attack and shattered the crystal before using the pieces to imprison Lyric. Knowing that their efforts would only hinder Lyric, not stop him, the Ancients scattered the crystal fragments across their world. As predicted, Lyric eventually escaped and set out in search of the fragments, which eventually led to a confrontation with Shadow. After a brief conflict, Lyric managed to use a mind control device on Shadow and make him his servant.
Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends are informed by Sticks the Badger that there is a new threat rising, but they all disregard her input. Amy Rose then goes to check out a nearby temple while Knuckles the Echidna keeps watch, only to run into Lyric.
- This is the second piece of new Archie Sonic related material to come packaged with a Sonic video game title, the first being the Sonic and the Secret Rings digital comic.
- Due to restrictions, it is also the only Sonic Boom comic to feature Lyric the Last Ancient and the Sonic Boom version of Shadow the Hedgehog.
