Semper Fidelis is a Mobian Fire Ant and a member of the Fire Ant Council, a group closely aligned with the Brotherhood of Guardians. The son of Deo Volente and the father of Archimedes, Semper mentored a number of Guardians, the last being Athair, who left that organization to lead the Lost Tribe of Echidnas. Since retiring from his teaching role, he has remained an adviser to the Brotherhood, and after their disappearance joined the Angel Island resistance against Dr. Eggman and his Dingo allies.

History[]

Mentor and Advisor[]

Semper Fidelis was the mentor of the Guardian Athair, whom he considered to be "quite a load". An adventurous sort, he also mentored Thunderhawk and Janelle-Li, but despite being very involved in their daily activities did less to instruct his charges than had his forebears. Following Athair's departure from the role of Guardian, Semper passed on his teaching role to his son Archimedes. (KtE: #2, CSE)

Since that time, he has served as one of several Fire Ant advisers to the Brotherhood, notably taking part in a discussion in which the Brotherhood contemplated Mobius' situation in the aftermath of the death of Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Semper and his father Deo agreed that the Brotherhood lacked focus in their goals, and Semper reminded the Brotherhood that the Guardians original purpose was to defend the Floating Island, while the Brotherhood has looked after "echidna interests on a global scale." Semper gave the Brotherhood his view of their choices: to stand by and let their people become an insignificant force on Mobius, or to take charge and lead the Echidnas and the rest of Mobius into a new age of prosperity. (KtE: #16)

Semper and his father later watched from a viewscreen the Brotherhood's discussion with Knuckles, who had recently and unexpectedly arrived in Haven. (KtE: #21)

When Deo stated bluntly to Locke that Archimedes likely felt the need to get involved in Knuckles' personal life for fear he would otherwise end up a "swinging single" like Locke, Semper chastised Deo, stating "That was uncalled for!". (KtE: #27)

When the Brotherhood rallied in Haven upon the arrival of Mathias, Semper Fidelis was present along with his father and son. However, they did not join with the Brotherhood in their assault on the Grand Conservatory. (SSS: #14)

Resistance Fighter[]

Sadly, the arrival of Dr. Eggman prevented the implementation of Semper's dream of a new "golden age", and when the Brotherhood vanished as they defended the Master Emerald, Semper and his family found themselves among the few Fire Ant Council members to have escaped the Egg Grapes. (StH: #139, #141)

Allying themselves with General Von Stryker, deposed leader of the Dingoes, the Fire Ants continued to resist Eggman's occupation up until the point when the fourth Enerjak overthrew the Dingo Regime. (StH: #181)

Background Information[]

  • It appears Semper's outfit is inspired by the famous George Lucas character Indiana Jones, from the franchise of the same name. Along such lines, many elements from Lucas's Star Wars franchise, such as outfit and ship designs, are used in the comic.
  • Semper Fidelis is Latin for "always faithful."
