The Order of Ixis was an ancient society of sorcerers that originated many centuries before the birth of Sonic the Hedgehog, roughly 9,700 years ago. Founded by Ixis Mogul, who developed much of the Order's knowledge as he gained increased understanding of his Chaos abilities, the Order soon drew other beings who were interested in obtaining power through the natural forces on Mobius. Eventually, this group became involved in a war with the Albion Knights of Aurora known as the Forgotten War, which ended with the Order's defeat and destruction. (StH: #163)

Only four members managed to survive: Mogul, Agunus, Nusgau and Suguna - the latter three wizards eventually merged and became Ixis Naugus. The two would later join forces, prompting goodly magician Merlin Prower to state that the Order of Ixis had returned-however, their subsequent defeat and time in the Egg Grape Chambers, Naugus was left bereft of his Ixis Magicks leaving the Order reduced to a single member and thus defunct once again. Later, with the aid of Geoffrey St. John, Ixis Naugus managed to regain his sanity. It is also revealed that St. John possesses novice-level magical abilities, potentially making him a member of the order as well.

SU #8 mentions two events in the history of the possible future of Mobius: X Years Later-namely the Ixis Resurgence and Elemental War-that would seem to be related in some way to the Order of Ixis.

Apart from Ixis Mogul, the three members' names are anagrams of each other's names.
