Ancient TimesEdit

During the early centuries of Mobius, a group of Echidnas left Albion to create a colony and spread Echidna culture. Settling in Soumerca, they encountered the hostile native Felidae warriors, and most of the colonists chose to leave and settle elsewhere. Two castes remained behind to fight over the land, the warrior caste would come to be known as the Knuckles Clan, while the other group who were more advanced in science, became the Nocturnus Clan. A three-way war erupted between the three groups, and the Knuckles Clan angered Perfect Chaos and were destroyed. Their rivals, the Nocturns Clan, were eventually banished to the Twilight Cage by unknown means, though they managed to preserve themselves with their own technology. (SSSM: #2)

• The Nocturnus Clan is not to be confused with their counterparts from an alternate reality.
• Sonic Super Special Magazine #2 explains how the Nocturnus Clan were banished to the same zone that the Dark Legion was eventually banished to. As to speculation on if these two distinct but similar groups ever met, is still unknown.
• In the video game Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the Nocturnus are led by a white-furred Echidna known as Imperator Ix. He is seen in the timeline of Sonic Super Special Magazine #2 along with Shade, so the character is canon to Archie under Tier 2 canon.
