Repairing the Death Egg
After his defeat at the hands of Sonic and Tails, Dr. Eggman's Death Egg crash landed on the floating island, resulting in the island sinking down to the water's surface. Eggman used the Launch Base Zone as his base for repairs and apparently messed with the systems. He eventually repaired his flying fortress and took off into the sky with Sonic and Tails pursuing him, resulting in another crash landing on Angel Island's Lava Reef Zone. Mushroom Hill Zone was the area that Sonic and Tails passed through after their battle in the skies over Launch Base Zone. After defeating Dr. Eggman in Mushroom Hill Zone, the doctor fled to his aircraft, Flying Battery, in which Sonic and Tails pursued him. During their visit, they encountered and defeated the axe-wielding Badnik, Hei Hou. (VG: SH3aK, SU: #64)
Knuckles later passed through Mushroom Hill Zone to reach Flying Battery in pursuit of a fleeing EggRobo controlled by Dr. Julian Snively, Dr. Eggman's assistant, after multiple encounters on the island. During his visit, he, just like Sonic and Tails before him, encountered and defeated Hei Hou. (VG: S3aK, SU: #70)
- From a reader's perspective, this picks up from where the original Pre-Super Genesis Wave continuity left off.
Eclipse the Darkling appeared in Mushroom Hill Zone after crash landing on Angel Island, a result of the destruction of the second Black Comet. After detecting the strange energy readings at the Launch Base Zone, Relic the Pika and Fixit went to investigate, only to discover a strange black and red plant growing from the ground, unknowing that Eclipse was watching them from the shadows. (SU: #62, #64, #65)
Eclipse later passed through the zone with his Dark Arms, who were carrying the stolen Master Emerald, in an attempt to reach a shuttle in Launch Base Zone that Team Dark had used. Along the way, he encountered traps that Rouge the Bat had activated in an attempt to slow him down until Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog could reach him. (SU: #70)
- Mushroom Zone is based on the level Mushroom Hill Zone from the videogame Sonic & Knuckles.
