The Monolith was an deep space research vessel created by the echidnas of Albion. Roughly one thousand years ago, it was launched from planet Mobius to explore the local solar system. The only mentioned crew member of the Monolith was an echidna named Dave, who was investigating Jupiter's moon of Europa at the time. Dave's exploration was chronicled in the book 2001: A Space Odyssey. (KtE: #30)

No exterior images of the ship were shown in the comics. Only one interior shot was shown of some kind of core chamber, which suggested the ship lacked an atmosphere.
