- This article pertains to the Badnik based on Knuckles the Echidna; if you are looking for information on the Robian version of Knuckles, see Mecha Knuckles.
Metal Knuckles is a Metal Series Badnik modeled after Knuckles the Echidna and built by Dr. Eggman. After it's production, Metal Knuckles first saw action against the Echidna homeland of Albion where it was left behind to support Lien-Da's Dark Egg Legion chapter. While it battled Team Fighters, Metal Knuckles was disabled by a defense system, which left the robot prone to becoming a host body for the Krudzu Hybrid Hydra. Due to the combined efforts of Team Fighters and Shard the Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles body was completely destroyed and the Krudzu subdued.
Dr. Eggman unveiled Metal Knuckles to his Dark Egg Legion Grandmasters along with the rest of the Metal Series. Almost the entire line of robots were activated to serve as enforcers for the empire following the betrayal of Snively. Unlike his fellow constructs, Metal Sonic v3.0 and Metal Tails, he was not used as part of Team Metal to attack New Mobotropolis. (SU: #37, StH: #240)

Now equipped with vines and the Krudzu's machinery adapting capabilities, the dangerous mechanical being attacked Team Fighters and Knuckles shortly after they defeated Thrash and his pack of Devil Dogs. Though the heroes eventually shattered Metal Knuckles' blades, it then absorbed surrounding machinery from the ruins, reshaping Metal Knuckles into a misshapen mechanical giant. Despite its new power, the monstrosity was caught off guard and downed by a surprise attack from Shard the Metal Sonic. The attack was not enough to defeat Metal Knuckles' new form though, and the fused being recovered, resuming its battle against Team Fighters and Shard. Eventually, however, it was destroyed by the combined efforts of the heroes and Thrash's Devil Dogs, and its last remaining component-its head-was crushed by Amy's Pico Pico Hammer. (StH: #245, #246)
As a robotic duplicate of Knuckles, Metal Knuckles is designed to utilize similar abilities in combat. As such, this allows Metal Knuckles to take full advanage of its knuckle blades, both as weapons and tools similar to how Knuckles uses his knuckle spikes. Metal Knuckles is also capable of flight, but this is more of a standard feature amongst the Metal Series robots. Since Knuckles can noramlly counter Sonic's abilities in combat, Metal Knuckles shares this adavanage as well by being strong enough to deflect even Sonic's Spin-Dash attack and not be taken down by a blow from Amy's Piko Piko Hammer. Additionally, this makes Metal Knuckles one of the hardiest and most powerful of the Metal Series unlike other units, as it has been extremely difficult to beat directly even against multiple opponents. he also has a laser beam which was reveald when sonic amy and tails where on the tornado and a green beam had hit the side of one of the wings
- Metal Knuckles is based on the character of the same name that appears in Sonic R.
- Like Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles' eye color (green) isn't the same as his organic counterpart Knuckles' eye color (purple).
- Ian Flynn has revealed that the Krudzu was never supposed to appear in Endangered Species, indicating that Metal Knuckles' antagonist role would not have involved serving as its host. However, given the removal of all characters created by Ken Penders, Metal Knuckles was one of only two antagonists from the original story-the other being Thrash the Devil and his pack-that was usable in the rewritten version.
