Li Yuen is a Mobian lion and a resident of Stormtop Village, whose family has lived there for years. He was present during the one-hundred days Mount Stormtop was set ablaze by the Iron Queen, and met Sonic and Tails on the final day of the fire when they'd put it out with the help of Monkey Khan. Two years later, he met them again on their quest to make peace between the four clans and the Free People, and try to stop the Iron Dominion all at once.
Meeting Sonic and Tails
On the one-hundredth day of the blazing fire on Mount Stormtop, made by the Iron Queen, Sonic and Tails came to the house of his granddaughter, Li Moon, and asked for water as they had been exposed to the heat of the fire. She said that she could not as water was being rationed as the village's supply was low, and Li Yuen then explained further to Sonic and Tails and told how the Iron Queen had used her magic to keep the fire going and how the Iron King had locked away the Fan of Fen Xing, the only thing that could put out the fire and return their village's lifestyle to normal. Upon the trio's arrival after retrieving the fan and putting out the fire, Li Yuen said he was not surprised at their success as they had had help from the fabled Monkey King. (StH: #60)
Explaining the Prophecy
When Sonic, Tails, Sally Acorn and Monkey Khan arrived in the Dragon Kingdom in an attempt to force the regional clans to stop supporting the Iron Dominion, they first arrived in Stormtop Village. Li Yuen gave Sonic and Tails a tour of the Temple of the Golden Lotus, explaining the history of the land and the prophecy that he believed to refer to Monkey Khan. Unfortunately, Tails, Sally and Khan were captured by the Gossamer Clan, leaving Li Yuen and Sonic to take refuge in the Temple, with the former in deep regret over what had transpired. However, all worked out for the best, and Li Yuen and his granddaughter later shared dinner with the heroes. After they had completed their mission in the Dragon Kingdom, Li Yuen came to see the group off. He told Monkey Khan that he was sure he would return victorious. (SU: #13, #16)
- The name Li Yuen may be a play on the word Lion. His name could also be a reference to Li Ching-Yuen.
- In many Asian countries, the first name is the family name and the last name is the given name. Given that Li Yuen and his granddaughter both share the first part of their name, it's possible that Li is actually the family name.
Li Yuen is a tall lion standing twice the height of an average mobian, wearing blue robes and is usually seen with a cane due to old age and has light yellow fur and a dark brown mane/beard.
