The Image Comics Zone (also known as the Image Universe) is an alternate reality that is known to be inhabited by numerous superhero and supervillain characters. It was once visited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna and the Knothole Freedom Fighters.

It is one of three realities in which Sonic and his world exist only as works of fiction.

Background Information[]

  • The Image Comics Zone is, as its name implies, based on various concepts from the Image Comics company.
  • While not named in the story, the villainous Dr. Droid is heavily implied to be an alternate version of Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
  • As Sonic is a fictional character in this universe, it's possible this could be the same universe which Sonic had an earlier encounter with in the main story of Sonic Live. It's unknown whether or not this is the case.
    • It can at least be assumed that it and the Archie Comics Universe are not one and the same, as Image Comics is mentioned multiple times in said universe, implying that the Image Comics universe is also fictional from Archie's perspective.
      • That being said, Archie Andrews himself makes a cameo in the Image universe during the Super Special story, however this was likely nothing more than an Easter egg.
  • Batman, Spider-Man, and Popeye were amongst the prisoners captured by Dr. Droid. It is unknown if they're natives to this zone, or captives from other realities.
  • Image Comics' nature of allowing comic creators to retain the rights to the characters they publish with Image had led to many characters entering or exiting the Image Universe as the creators move from or to other publishers. Image co-founder and Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen generally treats the Image Universe continuity as though each title exists in its own universe, and any crossovers between different creators' characters are events that occur simultaneously in each respective characters' universes.[1]
