Hey everyone, Arbiter here. I was going through some of the comic articles and recently I've been seeing a lot of random quotes and memorable quotes with too much filler to where it seems like a waste of space on the article itself. When the comic article itself was designed, I thought people would get the message that it would be for the memorable quotes for that particular issue itself, not something completely random. Here are a couple of pieces I went over with another user not too long ago:

  • Sally: Honestly, go set camp for the night. *Sonic: (Laughing) Ha Ha Ha Sure, Sure.

This, to me, is an example of a "random quote". It has no meaning, it's just a line in the comic.

  • Lupe: Excellent work, Sonic. You did it! *Sally: Yes, you were wonderful! (kisses Sonic on the cheek) *Sonic: Uh, thanks.

Again, this is random, however, there is an idea to this. If, for example, this was the issue where Sonic and Sally share their first kiss, then this would be a memorable quote.

Now, here's what I consider to be a "filler quote":

  • Silver: "Boomer." Peh.
  • Sonic: Yeah. That was his nickname growing up. We called him that all the time.
  • Silver: I know. I get it. His mother explained it repeatedly on the trip here.
  • Sonic: You're really bent on finding this imaginary traitor among my friends, huh?
  • Silver: My research was...lacking, I'll admit. But I'm trying to save you all, as well as my time. At least this wasn't a total waste of time.
  • Sonic: Oh?
  • Silver: When I was hooked into that machine, I could see into the minds of the herd. I didn't just break the legion's control but I made so that these walruses can never be mind-controlled again.
  • Sonic: Okay, that is pretty darn cool.(Clinks glasses with Silver)
  • Silver: Thanks
  • Rotor: [Lifts Silver up on his shouder] Yeah, well--try sitting across from Hamlin for a week--then I'll be impressed!
  • Silver: What in the world is a "Hamlin"...?

The three lines that are bolded alone would have done this "memorable quote" justice, but with all the filler at the bottom of the bolded lines (maybe with the exception of the bottom two in italics), it seems more like a random quote.

I'm not trying to sound nitpicky, but I believe too many of these types of quotes would make the comic articles look very messy and I don't think anybody would want that. I would've also immediately eliminated as many random and filler quotes as I could, but I wanted to open this up for discussion first to see what everybody has to say on the subject before I went ahead and started deleting as many unnecessary quotes as possible. The comics don't all have "memorable" quotes in every issue. They are going to need fillers to have the article be complete.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:25, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
I dunno, I'm pretty sure it's not too hard to find something interesting, poignant or amusing. It's just annoying when people seem to flip open to a random page and jab a finger at a word balloon, or when half of the "quote" is more of a description than anything else (never mind that people also seem to have a tendency to paraphrase from memory). I agree with the general notion that people need to put more consideration into what they choose for the quotes page. CrazyLea 02:24, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
