Early Life[]
During his life, Zonshen would make frequent visits to the local Gaia Temple to make offerings to the Gaia Phoenix, the local guardian spirit. (StH: #281)
The Shattered World Crisis[]
During the Shattered World Crisis, Zonshen ceased his visits to the temple as the Gaia Phoenix grew abnormally hostile from the corrupting influence of Dark Gaia Energy. When Zonshen finally made a trip to the temple grounds, he was cornered by the Gaia Phoenix's corrupted form, the Dark Gaia Phoenix, as night fell. Luckily, he was saved by Sonic and his allies who also restored the Gaia Phoenix to normal. In gratitude, Zonshen awarded the heroes with the final Gaia Key needed to save the world. (StH: #281, #282)
