This is a list of all known publications in the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog series that have gone unreleased, with no future release dates currently planned, thus rendering the original series' that they were a part of defunct.

As of now, the entire Archie Sonic the Hedgehog line has been discontinued due to SEGA's ending of their partnership with Archie Comics Publications, leaving a handful of previously solicited issues and graphic novels planned releases cancelled.

Even before the lines discontinuation, several graphic novel series' being released by the company ended up cancelled. While never officially stated, potential reason could be due to behind-the-scenes legal troubles concerning the comics Pre-Super Genesis Wave Timeline, which the vast majority of these books contain reprinted stories from. Other reasons for cancellation may merely be down to poor sales of the series' they were a part of.

  • Official solicitation: SONIC and Tails head for ADVENTURE in “Genesis of a Hero” Part Four: Our celebration of the Blue Blur’s 25th anniversary comes to a close with a look back to the most titanic turning point of the Classic Era! Sonic and Tails have been diverted, trapped and attacked all across Angel Island by the mysterious native called “Knuckles!” Now, deep in the heart of the island, they confront Dr. Eggman’s latest minion in an all-out brawl! Featuring cover art by Sonic comics veteran Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante plus a “Sonic VS. Knuckles” variant by long-time Sonic comic colorist, Matt Herms!
  • After the series was officially confirmed to be cancelled, Tracey Yardley released all 20 of the issues fully inked pages online and subsequently auctioned them off, alongside the few pencilled pages from the following issue. The pages showed that the story would have adapted the events of Sonic & Knuckles from the battle between the two within the Hidden Palace Zone and covering up to events in the Sky Sanctuary Zone. Mecha Sonic would have also appeared.

  • Official solicitation: EVERYTHING CHANGES when SONIC and friends go down their “Branching Paths”: The Shattered World Crisis is behind us, and the 25th Anniversary was well celebrated! So what’s next for Sonic and his friends? That’s up to them to decide! Sonic is racing around Westside Island on a mission—but for whom? And while Sonic’s away, each of his friends make decisions that will plot the course of their lives. Don’t miss out on the beginning of a whole new era of Sonic stories! Featuring cover art by Sonic comics veteran Tracy Yardley and a “Epic Movie Poster” variant by T. Rex!
  • After the series was officially confirmed to be cancelled, Tracey Yardley released the only 12 pages of the issue, that had only made it as far as the pencilling stages, online and subsequently auctioned them off, alongside the 20 fully inked pages of the previous issue. The pages depicted Sonic looking up at the Death Egg, and conversations taking place between Sally and Amy, and Tails, Rotor, and Nicole.
  • It's believed the issue would've led into Sonic Universe's also cancelled "Freedom Fighters" arc.
293
  • Official solicitation: Sonic and Honey are on the set of the latest, greatest(?) super hero show—Sonic Man Heroes! But when Dr. Eggman crashes the scene, ranting and raving about creative differences, things get very interesting! Featuring cover art by comics extraordinaire Tracy Yardley and a “Arcade” variant by Sonic comics legend Patrick.
  • Tracey Yardley, after the series' confirmed cancellation, released his concept sketches for the "Sonic-Man Heroes" online, and later put them up for sale.
  • The location depicted on the main cover appears to be Studiopolis Zone, one of the new zones from the game Sonic Mania, a game which was still upcoming at the time the issue was intended to release.
  • The variant cover is modelled after the in-game graphics of Sonic the Fighters, the game where Honey the Cat (technically) made her debut.
294
  • Official solicitation: "Memories": Sonic reminisces with his buddies Mighty and Ray, but Sonic and Mighty disagree on how they met. Can their friendship survive their egos’ revisions? Then in “Baking Bad,” Bunnie and Antoine put their competitive cooking skills to the test! Featuring cover art by Tyson Hesse and a “Kooky Kitchen variant" by Jennifer Hernandez!
  • The main story would have adapted the arcade game SEGASonic the Hedgehog.
  • The back-up story's title is a pun on "Breaking Bad", the US TV drama series.

Sonic Universe[]

  • Official solicitation: It’s Sonic's Super Team, the “Freedom Fighters”: They’ve been Sonic’s closest friends in the comics for years! Now it’s their time to shine! Antoine takes the stage, traveling to his homeland to find some closure to his past. But he and Sonic find a new foe in the empty halls of Castle D’Coolette, and the beginning of a mystical new adventure! Featuring cover art by jammin’ Jamal Peppers and a “Team Blast” variant by Lamar Wells!
  • The main cover is based on the "start" screen of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, with Antoine in place of Tails.
  • The variant cover is named after the "Team Blast" ability from Sonic Heroes.
96
  • Official solicitation: BUNNIE gets ready for a NEW VENTURE in “Freedom Fighters” Part Two: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire—and in this case, evil too! Bunnie is summoned to Blaze’s world in a desperate attempt to repel the invasion of a new, sinister force! Featuring cover art by jammin’ Jamal Peppers and a “Freedom Fighters Forever” variant by the excellent Evan Stanley!
  • The main cover is based on the boxart for Sonic Rush.
97
  • Official solicitation: "Freedom Fighters" Part Three: Amy Rose and Cream join Sally Acorn as they seek the components needed to repair Nicole’s systems, but during their quest an old adversary reemerges! Featuring cover art by Jamal Peppers and a "Sonic and the Freedom Fighters variant" by Tyson Hesse!
  • The main cover art resembles the boxart of Sonic Jam, more specifically the North American variant.
  • The "Sonic & the Freedom Fighters" logo on the variant cover is based directly on the logo for the Sonic the Hedgehog (AKA: SatAM) TV series.

Sonic Super Special Magazine[]

Volume Cover Notes
14
  • This planned fourteenth issue has two incarnations:
    • The first incarnation was the one that would have immediatly followed the thirteenth issue a quarter of a year later (roughly around March 2015). It was initially delayed before being released very briefly on the Archie Comics App, before hastily being removed again for unknown reasons (possibly a technical error). It has not been released again in any form since, and its cancellation led to what would have been a two year hiatus for the series. For more information on this rare release, see Sonic Super Special Magazine Issue 14 (Limited/Unreleased Version).
    • The second incarnation was solicited for release in early 2017. This would have marked the magazine's return from a two year long hiatus. This version of the issue, and the relaunch it would have bought would never see the light of day due to the Archie Sonic comics' discontinuation.

Sonic Super Special Magazine -15

  • This issue was intended to release in summer 2015, following the original version of the fourteenth issue above, but that issues delay and eventual cancellation resulted in this issue also being cancelled. The cover art and featured Sonic Comic Origins story were later used for Sonic Super Digest #15.
