The Fearsome Foursome are a group of four villains consisting of Lightning Lynx, Sergeant Simian, Flying Frog, and Predator Hawk. Originally appearing as the minions of Mammoth Mogul, they would later be joined by various other criminals as time passed, eventually becoming four of the six members of the Destructix. The name was also briefly applied by Mogul to Sonic the Hedgehog and a brainwashed Mighty the Armadillo, Mina Mongoose, and Tails.

History[]

Mogul's Minions[]

Minor villains at best, the Fearsome Foursome first appeared in the service of Mammoth Mogul, who recruited them from various parts of Mobius. Predator Hawk was found running with the Babylon Rogues, having previously deserted the Battle Bird Armada. Sergeant Simian was saved by Mogul from Dr. Robotnik's forces while defending the Mobian Jungle. Lightning Lynx was recruited fresh from banishment from the Raiju Clan, whilst Flying Frog hailed from Mercia. Their first appearance as a team was an exploratory attack on Angel Island, in which they met and did battle with the original four members of the Chaotix. Unable to defeat the allies of Knuckles the Echidna without Mogul's full power, which was denied him by a curse placed on his Chaos Emerald by the Ancient Walkers. They would later return disguised by Mogul's mental illusions, attacking the Chaotix disguised as Freedom Fighters and the Freedom Fighters disguised as the Chaotix. However, this ruse was quickly seen through, and the four were defeated and then abandoned by Mogul. Taken into custody, all four were then sent to the Devil's Gulag prison. Becoming the Destructix[]

Escaping from prison, the group hooked up with Drago Wolf, Sleuth Dog, and other escaped prisoners. Briefly serving under Snively Kintobor, they were joined by Warlord Kodos and Uma Arachnis in West Robotropolis, and later went together to capture Nate Morgan. However, after Snively's apparent death, they went their own way with only Drago and Sleuth accompanying them. Taking refuge in a factory with Tommy Turtle as a hostage, they were roboticized by Dr. Eggman, and apparently all killed by a grenade that Sleuth threw before being roboticized. Later, it was found out that their robots made it out of the explosion okay and were later de-roboticized by the Bem. Shortly after this, they were among the massive force that assembled to battle the Xorda. (StH: #62, #63, #69, #70, #117, #123)

Following Sonic's return from space, however, a group of robots identical to their Robian forms were deployed by an entity known at that time as "Anonymous." In fact, the robots were only copies, and the real Fearsome Foursome teamed up with Drago and Sleuth Dog, though their new group remained unnamed. They were thought to have made a deal with Anonymous, who was in truth Eggman's computer virus son A.D.A.M., but the recording of that meeting was in fact computer generated. (StH: #135, #136)

Later on they appeared again, this time under their new alias, the Destructix, working under Sleuth Dog to free Mammoth Mogul. From that time forward, the group was known simply as the Destructix. The Foursome, however, would remain the core of this new group, remaining together-with the exception of Lightning's brief departure-even with Sleuth and Drago's eventual departure. Second Group[]

New Fearsome Foursome

The new Fearsome Foursome.

In order to escape from prison in New Mobotropolis, Mogul brainwashed Mighty the Armadillo, Mina Mongoose, and Tails using post-hypnotic suggestions placed previously in order to have them attack Sonic. His purpose was to convince Sonic to deliver to him a Chaos Emerald located in Castle Acorn in order to enable his escape. When Sonic could not be beaten into obedience, Mogul sent each of the three brainwashing victims towards some form of certain death, forcing Sonic to comply with his demands, thus becoming Mogul's "Fourth." Once he had obtained the Chaos Emerald, Mogul recalled his minions from their suicide missions and announced that the new Fearsome Foursome had been dissolved. Merlin Prower subsequently insured that Mogul's control over the group was permanently broken. (StH: #185, #186, #187)

Background Information[]

  • The Fearsome Foursome may be a mild parody or homage to The Sinister Six , a group of Marvel supervillains whom were comprised of Spider-Man's greatest arch-enemies.
  • The Fearsome Foursome may have been inspired by Mogul's closest associates in the Order of Ixis, the Four Elite.
