Bomb and Heavy left Eggman's Badnik Horde claiming to be opposed to their former master, and worked with Knuckles the Echidna, Mighty the Armadillo, and the Chaotix trio as they challenged Eggman's machinations. Whether or not they were truly at war with their former master, Knuckles and his allies succeeded in defeating Eggman's forces. (KC)
Bomb's apparent willingness to depart Eggman's service and aid his enemies indicates a moral sense and free will not unlike that developed by such later creations of Eggman's as Metal Sonic, E-102 Gamma, and E-123 Omega.
- This version of Bomb and his partner originated from the video game Knuckles Chaotix.
- Unlike Heavy, Bomb had appeared in numerous prior games. He originally appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog as a walking red bomb with a grey helmet and no face appearing in the Star Light Zone and the Scrap Brain Zone (Genesis version) and Sky Base (Game Gear version). It was slightly fatter in its appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear only) in both Gimmick Mountain Zone and Scrambled Egg Zone. A black nameless badniks in the Electric Egg Zone of Sonic Chaos and a giant red badnik in Metallic Madness in Sonic CD appear to be variations as well. Regardless of the design, they all function the same: walk mindlessly about, spot Sonic, ignite the fuse, self-destruct into a shower of projectiles. It is impossible to safely damage a walking bomb without an invulnerability power-up.
- Bomb and Heavy were listed in the Knuckles' Chaotix American game manual as the "Mechanix," and were identified as Eggman's mechanic crew.
