Battles with Sonic
His first appearance had him and everyone else going into hiding, not wanting to have Robotnik take his anger out on them for grabbing what he thought was treasure, and finding only Sonic the Hedgehog's bronzed baby shoes. Later, he and Newtron had the task of dynamiting a random place in an attempt to flush out a spy. Sonic, who knew what was happening, set off the explosives before the bomb could reach its intended target. Ball Hog, was also present during an attack on what Robotnik thought was a wedding between Sonic and Princess Sally. (StH: #7, #16, #18)
He didn't show up again until Sonic decided to visit the Island of Misfit Badniks. Ball Hog was among the badniks that fought Sonic, before Pseudo Sonic caused the island to sink. Ball Hog finally saw some action when the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters attacked the island in order to stop the badnik's from enlarging Pseudo Sonic. Ball Hog led the second wave of badniks, consisting of himself, Splats, Orbinaut, and Coconuts. He took on Bivalve, before getting beaten up. Like all of the other badniks, Ball Hog was compacted into a cube along with the island by Big Fluke. (StH: #170, #185)
Ball Hog was never shown to actually use its abilities. He is able to roll over others like bowling pins, but not much else. (SA #4)
- Ball Hog was modeled after the like named badnik (known as Ton-ton in Japan) from the Genesis and Game Gear game Sonic the Hedgehog, both times appearing only in the Scrap Brain Zone. The game version appears only atop steep slopes with the intention of rolling balls down them. In the Genesis version, Ballhog was Magenta with a teal nose, while in the Game Gear version he was pink with a yellow nose. By contrast, Ball Hog was orange and pink in his first appearance, blue with pink limbs, snout and belly in his second appearance, orange and pink again at the wedding, and green with a yellow belly everywhere else. Sometimes, he simply las a yellow torso, and other times, he has a green belly with a yellow belly, though this may be an error on the part on the colorist. as the changes happen during the story.
