Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 89 was the eighty-ninth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.

Summary
Story One
- "Thicker Than Water" - Part 1
The story starts out as King Maximillian is being rushed to the emergency room by Dr. Quack while a distraught Sally, Elias, Tails, Geoffrey St. John, and Sonic watch. When Sonic attempts to comfort her, she turns on him saying she can't understand; she trusted Sonic to protect him, to which Geoffery comes to Sonic's defence explaining that he he no other choice. After this Sally runs out of the hospital in tears. Sonic attempts to follow her but is stopped by Geoffrey who tells him that she probably needs time to herself, and instead Elias goes out to confront his sister.
In Robotropolis the Robians are marching towards the Eggdome where a Shadow-bot is ordering them to get inside. Eggman comes in and says "Well said indeed. But from now on... I'LL give the orders around here, comprende?" As he moves away he mutters to himself about being abroad too long, and upon discovering that his lab is in ruins, remarks that he gets the feeling Sonic had been there lately before moving past.
Back at the hospital Sonic is muttering to Tails about Geoffery, as the latter orders the guard to bring the Sword of Acorns to the Royal Reliquary, when Rosie appears telling Sonic he shouldn't blame himself, and that she has known Sally since she was young and believes that her outburst is a result of the intense presure she is going through. Sonic replys that he knows this, but cant help but feel that he let her down; right when Mina Mongoose and Snaggle, Rory, and Sasha arrive telling Rosie they are back from their walk. Rosie thanks Mina for babysitting, and as Rosie and Sonic leave, Mina wonders why he looks so glum.
Elsewhere in Knothole Elias is searching for Sally escorted by his guards before he finds her sitting on a bridge, and things to himself that he has never seen her look so lost. He sits down next to her remarking that is really difficult when things start spinnign out of control, to which Sally says that things have been spinning out of control for a while. They talk about how the King has been keeping secrets from Sally when she was so used to knowing what was going on, and how Elias agrees with her deserving to know about their mother's condition before going on the mission to "That Hidden City of The Old Ones". Sally corrects him explaining its the Ancients, and he tells her that their father should have made Sally successor to throne becasue she has a knack for it. Sally then says she is not ready to lose their parents, to which Elias replys that he isnt either, but asks her why she took her anger out on Sonic instead of him. She says that it was becasue she asked him to protect their father, but Elias cuts her off telling her that Sonic had only left his side to rescue Elias. Shocked, Sally explaims "Oh Sonic! I could HUG you!"
At Sonic's House his parents are trying to comfort him, Jules saying that he knows he tried his best, but even he cant be in two palces at once. Bernie then says that Sally will come around, and offers to make him some breakfast. When his mom leaves Sonic is saying to himself that he's a loose cannon always acting before thinking, and goes further to say "I wish Uncle Chuck were here; he had all the answers." Saddening Jules.
- "Thicker Than Water" - Part 2
Eggman is in his lab watching a screen recording of Sonic, Elias, the King, and Geoffery's attack on his Eggdome, and realises that the Sword of Acorns had given Uncle Chuck and Muttski their free will temporarily, and sends his Swat-bots to fetch the Sword for him.
At Sonic's house, Sonic and Tails are in their room discussing how Uncle Chuck and Muttski had temporarily gotten back their free will, and Sonic is wishing he had had more time to figure it out, but he thinks it might be the key to resorting all the Robian's free will. Just then Sonic's mom comes in and tells them to come down for breakfast, which is chili-dogs. His mother asks him how they are, and he has a vision of eating the chili dogs Uncle Chuck use to make replying that "They're great!"
Outside Mina is walking around and smells the chilidogs, thinking to herself about how she misses her mom's cooking, and how both she and everyone she was close to is gone. She then says it's all Robotnik's fault and she would have to do something about that.
Later, Tails and Sonic are looking out the window when Tails asks if Sally's parents will be alright. He looks around as he realises that Sonic is gone when he was just there. At the Reliquary Geoffery and Hershey the Cat are closing the door when there's a huge breeze, which they remark about without realising that Sonic is now inside hiding. Sonic turns over his shoulder at the Sword of Acorns on the wall.
Back at the bridge with Sally and Elias, a guard calls to them that the surgery has been complete. They run to the hospital to Dr. Quack who tells them to follow him. He says that he did all that he could for them... but for them to see for themselves. Behind the curtain the King is holding his wife's hand who is still sleep. And just as The King says they are fine he feels the Queen squeeze his hand and to everyone's suprise she awakens!
It ends with Sonic, who is running through the forest with the Sword of Acorns while someone watches him from behind a tree.
Story Two
- "A Matter of Self Interest"
Knuckles, Rob, Antoine, Bunnie and Amy set off to Albion. Bunnie asks why they are heading there, instead of the Floating Island where the echidnas are. Rob explains that Knuckles reunited the Lost Tribe and both of them defeated the High Sheriff. Knuckles says that he left after he lead them to Albion. Rob becomes uncertain why he left Yanar and the other when they were his kind. As they talked, they were unknowingly being monitored by the High Council, as Gala-Na is thinking this too. Yanar explains to her that his duties lie elsewhere. Rita-Le, concerned about the others, Gala-Na tells her that Rob has acted as their agent ever since Robotnik made the High Sheriff his Sub-Boss. All of them discussing why they have come, Rita-Le points out that Antoine bears a resemblance to Robotnik's agent.
Knuckles, Rob, Bunnie, Antoine and Amy arrive on the shores of Albion and are greeted by Gala-Na. As she takes them into the city, she explains that Knuckles' family refuse to return to their homeland. She escorts them around the city and provides them a place to rest. The next day, Yanar stops by to see Knuckles. Knuckles yells if Yanar knows what happened to the Floating Island and isn't doing anything about it. Yanar telling that there are more important problems and takes him to the High Sheriff of Snottingham. Yanar explains that the High Sheriff is one of Robotnik's most dangerous lieutenants and the High Council are going to deactivate him. knuckles worried that it would kill Antoine's dad, the High Sheriff reactivates himself and breaks his retraints. Knuckles pushing Yanar to safety tries to calm down the High Sheriff. Suddenly, Antoine is woken up by a loud explosion and Rob leads the team to check it out.
