Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 80 was the eightieth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.

Summary[]

Story One[]

"If Wishes Were Acorns"

Elias and the Knothole Freedom Fighters rush into the Royal Reliquary and find a teenage Amy Rose inside. Amy explains that she grabbed the Ring of Acorns and wished to be older so she could go to the City of the Ancients with the rest of her friends. Sonic tells Amy that being older doesn't make you more mature and they don't know if the wish will suddenly wear off, but Nate Morgan suggests they take Amy along so he can study the ring's effects. Amy wonders if the ring can grant more wishes, but Elias sadly states that the ring is out of power.

Before heading out on their mission, Sonic and Sally take some time to say their goodbyes. Sally speaks to her mother, still in cryostasis, and writes a message of love on her stasis chamber. Meanwhile, Sonic's mother and father promise that they'll be safe while he's away. Sonic gives them a hug and runs off, passing by a slightly enamored Mina Mongoose.

Nate is telling the Freedom Fighters that the Hidden City is populated with ancient Overlanders when Sonic arrives. Sonic and Tails board their new, Super Emerald powered bi-plane, the Tornado, while the others take flight in the Freedom Fighter Special. As the heroes fly away, King Acorn comforts his son and supposes that the queen would need more than a magic wish to become well. Elias silently agrees, vowing to do anything to save his mother's life.

The Freedom Fighters soon arrive at a massive mountain with an airplane crashed along its side. Nate explains to everyone that he believes the plane was meant to transport he ancient Overlanders around the first Days of Fury. They make their way through the narrow passageway into the mountain, where they find themselves in the presence of a metropolis: the Hidden City of the Ancients.

Story Two[]

"Land Fall"

Knuckles meets with his father, Spectre and Thunderhawk in Haven. Just then, Constable Remington calls Haven and sends them a video of the attack on Echidnaopolis. Knuckles recognizes the leader as Robotnik and assumes he was after the Master Emerald. Thunderhawk explains that the Brotherhood should either focus on restoring the Floating Island or retaliating against Robotnik. Further analyzing the video recordings, the group realizes that Robotnik has headed to the Mysterious Cat Country to retrieve the shards of the Master Emerald.

Knuckles blames their situation on the rest of the group, arguing that Robotnik wouldn't have been able to attack if they had helped Princess Sally fight him. The former Guardians argue and Knuckles leaves, hoping that Robotnik will know how to fix the emerald. Meanwhile, Vector, Mighty and Julie-Su examine the massive hole in the island leading to the destroyed Chaos Chamber. The group is surprised to hear Espio shouting in the distance and race to the island's shore. There, they find a group of strange cat people restraining their friend.

Story Three[]

"Swallowing Trouble"

In the Mysterious Cat Country, Big the Cat and Froggy sleep soundly under the stars. A rumbling sound stirs Froggy, and the frog hops its way over to a strange puddle of water. He licks up a bit of the water and suddenly grows a tail. Big wakes up and is surprised to see that his friend has changed.

A lone robot appears before them and snatches Froggy. Big tries to fight back, but the robot easily knocks him into a tree. When Big regains his senses, he finds that the robot has disappeared. Determined to find his friend, Big sets off in search of Froggy.
