Summary
Story One
- "Surprise!"
"One" The story begins with a brief overview of the events of STH: 50. In Knothole Village; Sally, Antoine, Rotor, Bunnie, Amy, Uncle Chuck, Jules and Bernie are discussing the change in Knothole's time. Antoine wonders if Knothole will always remain this way, but Sally is more concerned if "a certain blue hedgehog" will be home for his sixteenth birthday. All of them begin to wonder if Sonic isn't in Knothole, then where is he.
"Two" All of Mobotropolis are setting up for a welcoming party as a disguised Sonic, Tails and Nate Morgan arrive into the city. Nate is amazed about how much the city has changed, but asks why they are in disguises. Sonic explains that after Robotnik's rule, the sight of an Overlander could send panic to the Mobians. Tails looks around thinking that some kind of parade is about to take place.
"Three" Sonic thinks that word must have gotten out of them arriving, even though they landed their bi-plane in the outskirts of town. Sonic enjoys the idea that these "sly citizens" are putting on a birthday bash for him, and asks that everyone keeps on their disguises so they don't blow the surprise.
"Four" In space, just above Mobius, a satellite activates and fires a beam at a group of asteroids.
"Five" Meanwhile, in the deserted city of West Robotropolis on Big Kahuna Island, Snively along with the Fearsome Foursome, Drago, Sleuth and Nack with Kodos and Uma Arachnis in crystal. Snively unsure what to do since they all escaped Devil's Island Gulag, and everyone thinks he's the leader who saved them. Sleuth is arguing why they brought the crystals along after they broke out, Nack thinks that they might be worth something.
"Six" Nack then argues that they should forget about them and try to take over Mobotropolis. He suggests that they do it sneaky, but Sgt Simian bangs his fists that they should treat it like a military operation. Predator Hawk then gets involved that their attack should be aerial and this leads to Lightning Lynx arguing with Predator Hawk. During the argument, Snively is trying to calm them down, but suddenly Kodos and Arachnis change back to normal and begin to attack.
"Seven" In the Great Forest, Sally, Bunnie, Antoine, Amy and rotor leave through the Great Oak Slide and head back into the city. NICOLE sends a transmission to Sally from King Maximillian Acorn, who tells them that they are celebrating someone from the past who has finally returned. Ending the transmission, all of them run back to Mobotropolis thinking that Sonic must be back.
"Eight" Back in Mobotropolis, Nate congratulates Sonic on his popularity around here. Sonic then says that Nate should check out Sand Blast City, but then goes off that it's a bad idea (STH: 62-63). Sonic, Tails and Nate pass Rosie with Snaggle, Sasha and Rory excited about the parade. Tails begins flying, but is pulled back by Sonic, Sonic quickly saying that he'll give them away. Rosie notices them, along with familiar voices. She is about to asks them, but then a terrified bystander tells everyone to look out.
"Nine" All of the citizens run around terrified, taking cover from asteroids falling from the sky.
"Ten" Sonic and Tails then, leaving Nate behind to save the day. A few blocks away, Sally orders the Freedom Fighters to do something to help the city. Sonic and Tails begin rescuing innocent bystanders, while Nate looks shocked at everything going on.
"Eleven" Dulcy appears out of the sky, using her fire breath to wipe out the asteroids. Bunnie, Rotor, Antoine and Amy hurdle the citizens to safety. Sally asks NICOLE to analysis the situation that's going on, when she notices a speedy figure saving citizens.
"Twelve" Sally shots for Sonic, whose head is uncovered. Sonic notices her, along with an asteroid behind her. Sonic runs towards her, getting off his disguise and rescues Sally from the asteroid.
"Thirteen" Both Sally and Sonic are happy to see each other, along with the Freedom Fighters who reappear and welcome him home. Antoine recognizes Sonic and Tails, but then notices Nate, who introduces himself. Everyone a bit in shock, Sonic explains that Nate helped them kick Ixis Naugus' butt back to the Zone of Silence. Sally asks if her father's alright and that he told them you had returned. Sonic stops her and that he hasn't even seen her dad yet and then begins to wonder why is there a big celebration.
"Fourteen" The group arrive at Castle Acorn, where Sally tells King Max that Sonic has returned from his travels. Sally begins to tell him the results of the mission, but Max stops her and that there are more important matters.
"Fifteen" King Max presents Elias Acorn and tells that he was secretly smuggled to the Floating Island (STH: 64, KTE: 19-21) on the set of the Great War. He goes on that Elias lived there with Queen Alicia Acorn ever since and congratulates Geoffrey St. John into finding him 2 days ago. All of the Freedom Fighter appear shocked, until Geoffrey St. John notices Nate. Geoffrey seeing him as an Overlander accuses Sonic into planning an assassination attempt. King Max calms Geoffrey that Nate is one of the single greatest allies of the kingdom. King Max welcomes Nate back, with Sonic disappointed about his birthday celebration...
"Sixteen" Sonic, along with all his family and friends celebrate Sonic's birthday with a "16" birthday cake.
Story Two
- "Tales Of The Freedom Fighters: Survival Of The Fittest" - Part Two
Lupe, along with Reynard, Leeta, Lyco, Canus and Diablo reach the other side of the Great River as a storm is brewing up above. Lupe leads them to the land, and explains that they will scout for a place to camp once they are past the ruins. Reynard grabs the life boat from the water and is helped to the surface by Canus. Lupe leads them past an abandoned warehouse, when Reynald hears a noise. Leeta points to a broken window of the warehouse, sure that she saw something move. Lupe and Reynard investigate the warehouse, where Lupe grabs something from behind some boxes. Lupe grabs a child from the boxes, with Reynard recognizing her as an Overlander and that their must be others around. Lupe suggests that they can't abandon her, when another child bangs into Reynard, yelling not to hurt her sister. Reynard grabs her and carries her over his shoulder, but Lupe asks to give the child to her. Lupe asks her their names, to which Aerial introduces herself and her sister Athena who doesn't talk. Lupe asks where their parents are, to which Aerial cries that they are gone. Reynard doesn't believe them, but Lupe tells him to gather the other while she decides what to do.
