Summary
Story One
- "Friendly Rogues And Foul Villians"
Sonic and Tails appear in a jail cell where they are both chained to the wall. Yanar wakes up from the floor, in chains, wondering where he is. Sonic asks who he is, but before he gets an answer, two roboticized Mobians enter the cell. They release Tails and prepare to take him away. Yanar asks if Tails is going to trial, but one of the Robians laughs at the remark, laughing the idea that the High Sheriff will hold a trial. Sonic yells at him, but they ignore him. Sonic prepares to charge into them, but falls to the floor and hits his head on the wall, because of the chains. Elsewhere not too far away, Rob jumps out of a tree and confronts a confused Knuckles. Knuckles asks who he is and Rob, while showing off his acrobatic skills, tells him that he's the King of Deerwood Forest. Rob shouts if Knuckles is "animal enough to test my mettle", but Knuckles mocks him and throws Rob's bow away. Rob loses his balance and falls in the river. Rob asks Knuckles if he would become his ally and promises him "merry adventure and boon companionship". Back in the jail cell, Yanar asks Sonic how they ended up here. Sonic tells him that they got caught in bad weather (Day of Fury), where Tails and Sonic are in the bi-plane and fly through a storm. A lightning bolt hits their bi-plane and Tails managed to land the plane safely before they both blacked out. Sonic then tells that he woke up to discover a Robian capturing them. The Robian grabs Sonic, saying that a new color doesn't fool them and addresses him as Rob. Sonic says that he was too dizzy to fight and then ended up in the cell. Yanar then tells Sonic his story, where his tribe of Echidnas ran into some robots and forced the tribe to work and locked him up. Sonic stunned that he thought echidnas only lived on the Floating Island. Yanar about to explain the truth to him, when the two Robians come back and shout that it's Rob's turn. Sonic tries to explain that his real name, but the Robian shouts that he should spare his tricks. Yanar jumps the Robian saying he's more dangerous, but is overpowered by both Robians. As the two Robians take Yanar away to the High Sheriff, Yanar grabs the Robian's keys and drops them close to Sonic. Sonic grabs the keys on his sneaker and turns the keys with his teeth to free himself from the chains. Deep in Deerwood Forest, Rob explains to Knuckles that all his brave band where captured and roboticized by the High Sheriff. He furthur explains that the High Sheriff is Dr. Robotnik's Sub-Boss for the land of Mercia. Knuckles about to ask Rob where the tribe is, whereas Rob grabs a rope and explains that they can spy on them from above. Rob then takes Knuckles to his treehouse base, where he looks through a telescope at the lost tribe as doing the High Sheriff's dirty work. Knuckles looks through, seeing no sign of Yanar, and believes that Athair was right that these people are his responsibility. Knuckles about to fight against the enemy, but Rob stops him and says that they'll fight them together.
In the jail cell, the Robians appear again and demand that the High Sheriff wants Sonic. Sonic reveals himself to be free of his chains and proceeds to attack the two. He retreats from the room and locks them in the cell. Sonic runs through the castle and discovers the torture chamber. He finds Tails tied to a rack, with his arms and tails, where the High Sheriff is beginning the torture. He believes that no sane animal would visit Snottingham and thinks that they must be spies. He begins to torture Tails by having his servant tickle his feet for answers. Sonic instantly recognises the High Sheriff as General D'Coolette, who was lost along with his troops when he were fighting Robotnik. He then thinks that he must have been captured and roboticized. Sonic leaps and frees Tails from the rack. Sonic tries to convince the High Sheriff of who he is and that he's Antoine's friend. The High Sheriff attacks not believing them and only remembers owing his liege Dr. Robotnik his life. Tails yells for Sonic to do something, but Sonic can't bring himself to attack the High Sheriff. The High Sheriff then begins to gloat that they can not escape, when Tails notices a chandelier. Tails flies up, undos the supporting rope, causing the chandelier to fall onto the High Sheriff. Sonic and Tails then flee from the room, hoping to find a way out.
Meanwhile, Rob and Knuckles confront a stranger on a log, providing a path across the river. Rob tells Knuckles to stay and demands the stranger to "stand and deliver". The stranger then attacks Rob with their staff, disarming him of his bow, and then tripping him into the water. Knuckles then realises that its Mari-An of the lost tribe. Mari-An reveals herself and helps Rob out of the water. Both Rob and Mari-An introduce themselves shyly, but Knuckles brings them to more important matters. Mari-An asks him where her missing brothers are, where Knuckles points to the bi-plane. Knuckles recognises it as Sonic and Tails' plane, where Rob doesn't know their names. All of them proceed to head towards the High Sheriff's castle. While in the castle, Sonic and Tails are running blindly through the castle, not knowing where to go.
Rob leads Knuckles and Mari-An to Friar Buck's chapel, where he leads them to a secret passage to the castle. They enter the depths of the castle, where Rob accidentally bangs into Sonic. Sonic then realises that the robots must have thought he was Rob. Rob then remembers that it was Knothole where he sent his cousin Amy for safety. Sonic confused about to question Rob, when Knuckles leads them all to a balcony. They all watch from above as the High Sheriff is about to hang Yanar...continued in Knuckles the Echidna #12.
Story Two
- "Tales Of The Freedom Fighters - The Living Crown"
The story begins where King Maximillian Acorn is being examined by Doctor Quack about when the spirit of Ixis Naugus was driven from him. Max tries to convince Quack that its been over a week and is still being a test specimen. Wuack then stops the experiment and asks Max to cough. Max believes that the experiment's getting ridiculous and sits down. Both then begin to talk about their father's and Max begins to tell Quack why they became a monarchy. In a flashback, a young Max of ten years old is escorted by King Frederick Acorn deep within the palace to the Source of All. Fredrick explains that its the source of their power and directs Max into it. Max then emerges covered in the metallic substance and then drained of the substance, which then molds to create his crown and the Sword of Acorns.
Max then tells Quack that he didn't know it then, but he had bonded with the Source of All. Max then explains in more detail what the Source of All is, which leads Quack to ask about the crown and sword. Max tells him that they're his link to the source and goes onto him staying behind to fight against Robotnik. In this flashback, he tells Rosie and Julayla to take the Sword of Acorns to hide and escort a young Sally, Sonic, Antoine and Rotor to safetly. Max is then taken to Robotnik, who demands the crown and sword, but Max refuses. Robotnik frustrated banishes Max into the Zone of Silence. Max then explains that the crown could not protect him from Ixis Naugus' spells and also the exposure of the environment affecting him.
King Max realises it was because of the retrival of the sword that fully restored he begins to plan something for his daughter...

- This issue is the first time where Rob O' the Hedge and Mari-An meet, where Mari-An apparently develops the Soultouch towards Rob with him falling immediately in love with her.
- The first story where Sonic and Rob meet, Rob tells Sonic that he is Amy's cousin. This marks the first time where another member of Amy's family appears.
