Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 49 was the forty-ninth issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and part three of four in the End Game arc.

"Escape To The Floating Island"

As Sonic jumps off into the water, Geoffrey St. John aims one of his bolts at Sonic and yelling that he deserves for what he did to his "beloved Sally!" As Sonic is falling, he realises the only way he can survive is by using his figure eight move. He attempts to perform it, but is too exhausted. About to fall into the water, Sonic tries another trick by taking off one of his shoes and gathering the dirt inside. He puts his sneaker back on and throws the dirt towards land. Sonic quickly runs across the landstrip of dirt and avoids the water, but crashes into the riverbank. Geoffrey watches from above as the Royal Guards come back from behind. Geoffrey leads his group through the catacomb to capture Sonic while he's exhausted and before he heads back to Knothole.

Meanwhile in Knothole, Dr. Robotnik reveals to his captives that King Acorn was a robot duplicate. Robotnik then taunts them that he would rather see them perish, but allows them to use for a short while. He goes on that his Ultimate Annihilator is fully functional and every living thing will destroyed, along with their king in Robotropolis.

Meanwhile in Robotropolis, Doctor Quack reports to Snively that he's done everything Robotnik demanded (almost) and give him the documentation of Sally's death. Doctor Quack demands Snively that he's kept his end of the bargain, but Snively reveals his wife and kids imprisoned. He is about to attack Snively, but is shot by a Combot. Snively hides away his family and promises that they'll be safe if they do another favour for them. Snively shows Doctor Quack the king, who is still half-crystalised and sends Doctor Quack to perform the instructions in the letter.

Sonic still on the run is about to give up heading back to Knothole, when he gets an idea. Sonic vibrates his vocal chords and whistles, and Dulcy arrives from the whistle. Sonic tells Dulcy that he would never hurt Sally, and she sense the purity of truth and believes him. Sonic whispers to Dulcy to take him somewhere and Dulcy flies away. Geoffrey St. John and his group arrive just after they take off, but vows to follow him to the ends of Mobius. Geoffrey prepares to track Sonic down, seeing as he's still got his tracking device in the shackles Sonic is wearing.

Meanwhile in Hershey's cottage, Drago admires himself in the mirror as Duke of Mobius, but Hershey is trying to tell him about Sally's death. Drago slaps her and tells her she was the one that did it. Hershey in tears claims that it was Snively climbing the rope she cut. Drago pulls out Hershey's Sonic disguise and tells her to put it on again. Hershey puts on the Sonic mask, and whatever person she sees is Snively. Hershey throws the mask at Drago, were he brags that Hershey was tricked by Robotnik's technology. Hershey on the floor in tears as Drago proclaims that Robotnik will reward him with his own Kingdom and take over Mobius.

Halfway around the world in Downunda, inside the Great Crater, Bunnie and Antoine are taken into a cell. A Combot tells them that any attempt to destroy their collars will set off the explosive device. He locks them in the cell, where Bunnie and Antoine meet a captured Walt and Barby of the Downunda Freedom Fighters. Bunnie recognises them as Freedom Fighters and they introduce themselves. Suddenly inside the cell, Crocbot emerges and brags that after he was defeated by Tails and the Downunda Freedom Fighters, but rebuilt and captured them. He enjoys torturing his captives and prepares to torture Bunnie and Antoine, sent them back to Knothole and have revenge on Tails. He leaves the cell as Antoine comforts Bunnie.

Dulcy arrives over the Floating Island as Sonic wakes up from the flight. As Dulcy prepares to land, she is knocked out by Knuckles. Sonic mad at Knuckles for harming his friend punches Knuckles, who fights back. While Sonic and Knuckles are in battle, an explosion occurs in front of them. Geoffrey St. John coming from his parachute tells Knuckles to back off and that Sonic is his to take down...
