SummaryEdit

Story OneEdit

"The Three Phases of E.V.E"

Sonic demolishes a group of SWATbots, complaining that Robotnik's minions are no longer a challenge. Unbeknownst to him, Robotnik is observing the confrontation and collecting data for use in his newest creation. Leading Snively to his recently-constructed Cyber-Mechanoid Design Facility, he reveals the first in what he hopes will be a new race of robots, the Exceptionally Versatile Evolvanoids. Inputting the data from the battle, Robotnik activates his creation, which he anticipates will destroy Sonic.

Back in the Great Forest, Sonic and Tails are walking along, with the former expressing his desire for more challenging opponents. A powerful red robot grabs Sonic after erupting from the ground, throwing him and then attempting to annihliate him with impressive speed and aim of its laser weaponry. Sonic defeats it by tricking it into shooting down a nearby tree, which then falls on top of it. Perturbed by the new abilities of this attacker, Sonic and Tails head back to Knothole, unaware that their opponent was E.V.E., whom Robotnik reveals is not only made up of advanced microscopic parts with the ability to reconfigure her form, but also carries DNA from both Robotnik and Sonic.

After reconfiguring into a new form resembling a giant Buzzbomber, E.V.E. attacks Sonic and Tails again with even greater speed. Sonic is able to outwit her again, tricking her into crashing into a rock wall. Seeing her begin to reconfigure, Sonic realizes that this is the same enemy he defeated before, and speeds off to Robotropolis to investigate. Robotnik dismisses Snively's concerns, confident that E.V.E. will adapt to any defeat and eventually overpower Sonic. Sonic arrives to confront Robotnik, only for E.V.E. to appear in the form of a giant snake. Once again defeating her, Sonic is surprised as she undergoes another transformation.

Now in her final phase, E.V.E. speaks for the first time, and announces that her intention is to overcome all limitations-including her creator, Dr. Robotnik, revealing that Robotnik's plan to combine his attributes and Sonic's backfired. After seemingly vaporizing Robotnik, E.V.E. turns her attention to Sonic, but is then convinced to abandon her former programming and find her own path. E.V.E. departs for the far reaches of outer space, while a stunned Sonic and Tails leave Robotropolis and a distraught Snively behind. As they do, they can't help but wonder if Robotnik has really been destroyed.

QuotesEdit

  • Sonic: You'd think that by now Robotnik would've learned by now... that hedgehogs... and swatbots... just don't mix!
  • Sonic: I mean I wish he could have something new up his... ( a red robot bursts out of the ground)...sleeve!?

Tails: uh, oh... I think you just got your wish handed to you!

  • Tails: who.. what was that Sonic!?

Sonic: since dorthy and the scarecrow aren't around it couldn'd be the tin woodsman!

  • Snively: (sob) how will I live my life... without the great evil one telling me what to do?

Key EventsEdit

  • E.V.E. is introduced, develops free will, and travels into space, leading to her eventual return in issue #128.
  • Robotnik is apparently vaporized, but is in fact sent to another version of Mobius where he meets the alternate version of himself who will become Dr. Eggman, though this is not revealed until the next issue.
