Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 11 was the eleventh issue of the main Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.

Summary

Story One

"The Good, the Bad, and the Hedgehog" - Part One

The Freedom Fighters discover one of Dr. Robotnik's machines polluting a river with toxic waste. Sally contacts Sonic via a special wrist watch for backup. Sonic, having just defeated Scratch and Grounder on the other side of Mobius, decides to take a shortcut through the Cosmic Interstate, but he runs past his exit and ends up on Anti-Mobius.

Sonic immediately realizes something is wrong and heads to the Great Forest to find his friends. Instead, he finds a veterinary clinic run by Dr. Robotnik. The doctor commands the animals he's been taking care of to seize Sonic. Sonic jumps out the window and runs headfirst into Anti-Sonic.

"The Good, the Bad, and the Hedgehog" - Part Two

The two Sonics start to fight, but Anti-Sonic is easily defeated. Sonic asks him what's going on, and Anti-Sonic promptly explains their situation: after crossing a certain point on the Cosmic Interstate, everything gets turned around. In Anti-Mobius, Sonic and his friends are cruel oppressors and Robotnik is a kindly doctor. Sonic decides he's had enough and it's time to leave, but Anti-Sonic wants to toy with him and chases him around the planet.

Sonic heads to Anti-Robotnik's clinic, tricks the animals into capturing Anti-Sonic, and convinces Anti-Robotnik that he's a good version of Anti-Sonic. With Anti-Sonic captured, Sonic returns to the Cosmic Interstate and meets up with his friends. Using a device created by Anti-Robotnik, Sonic sucks up the sludge poisoning the lake.

Story Two

"Beat The Clock"

Coconuts, sick of being on the bottom of Robotnik's "Top 10 Badniks" list, captures the Freedom Fighters and places them in a dynamite-filled death trap. He recalls how Scratch, Grounder, and Bat Brain were able to last longer than he could against the hedgehog and plans to beat their record times. He assumes that the maze he's set up will leave Sonic confounded long enough for the bombs to go off, sealing his record time. Sonic arrives and saves the Freedom Fighters just before Coconuts' bombs blow up.

Story Three

"Food for Thought" or "You Are What You Eat"

Sonic stuffs himself full of chili dogs as an early birthday present. He eventually passes out and dreams that he's "Sonic the Chili Dog", with the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik as various food items. Robotnik broadcasts the news that he's captured Tails and plans to deep fry him in oil. Sonic heads out to save him, but slips on a banana peel. Robotnik captures Sonic and prepares to cook him on a grill. Sonic wakes up with a start and vows to never let his appetite get the better of him. Sally and Tails come in with a platter of chili dogs, and Sonic digs in.

Quotes

  • Anti-Sonic: "Comprende?"
  • Sonic: "No! I'm all turned around!"
  • Anti-Sonic: "Exactly! That's my point!"

Key Events

Background Information

  • "Beat the Clock!" and "Food for Thought" or "You Are What You Eat" feature Sonic's first major redesign. In these stories, Sonic's head and spines are no longer separated in the line art.
  • This issue marks the first appearance of the Anti Freedom Fighters. Only Anti-Sonic speaks; the other members are only seen in one panel. The entire group would return in Sonic the Hedgehog #24.
  • Dr. Kintobor looks exactly like Dr. Robotnik in this issue. His appearance was retconned in the Crossover Chaos Super Special.
  • Sonic finds out in the Sally Moon Super Special that it was Zonic who brought him to Anti-Mobius.

Cameos & References

  • Several Beatles references were made in the first story.

Errors

  • "Beat the Clock" was originally published without credits. This was later addressed in the Sonic-Grams column of StH #13,
  • In "Beat the Clock", Scratch is misnamed as Crabmeat.
