Story
- "No Thanks For The Memories" Part Two
Continuing from the last issue, Sonic, Amy Rose, and Knuckles are falling through the Spring Yard Zone as they try to make sense of their situation. Knuckles angrily blames Sonic for the predicament and tell him that he always drags everybody into trouble. Sonic retorts and claims that he simply won't stand for Eggman harming anybody, hench his actions. Eggman then appears in an attempt to shish-kabob the trio with a lethal spike, but is defeated, allowing them to free Rouge.
At the Master Emerald Altar, Chris and Chuck search for Knuckles to no avail, and that the Master Emerald is missing as well. Knowing that Knuckles would never leave it out of his sights, Chris and Chuck try to track its energy signature on the X-Tornado. Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman revelas the truth behind his plan to his hench-bots: he has trapped Sonic and his friends in a Master Emerald-powered virtual reality world that is designed to make them expendiate their energy, then launch them all to the under-construction EggMoon when they have hit the threshold, thus ending thier game forever.
Now in the Labyrinth Zone, the team wades through the dangerous water and chase Eggman out into the Star Light Zone, where they find Tails. After another explanation, Sonic and his friends are attacked by Eggman as he drops bombs on them. Meanwhile, the X-Tornado closes in on Dr. Eggman's beachfront lair, where the Master Emerald signal is located.
Now in the Scrap Brain Zone, Sonic and his friends finally find Cream and Vanilla, trapped behind a lethal wall of flames and electricity. Finding another TV monitor like the one from Green Hill Zone, Sonic smashes it open and becomes invincible, allowing him to rescue the last of his friends. Cheese then presses a button and launches everybody into the Final Zone, where Eggman tries to smash them into pancakes with a series of large pistons. However, they are unaware that the trap is just about to trigger on them, launching them to the EggMoon and thir dooms. Fortunatley, Chris and Chuck arrive and free them from their virtual prisons at the last moment, allowing them to grab the Master Emerald and escape the exploding lair. Furious, Dr. Eggman swears that they'll all pay once the EggMoon is complete.
Quotes
- Rouge: (handing rings to Knuckles) Does this make us engaged now?
Knuckles: Not in a hundred million years!
- Bocoe: But how exactly does this death trap work?
Dr. Eggman: (sighs) It's simple, really... I have trapped Sonic and his friends in a deadly virtual reality world that is powered by the Master Emerald. By the time they reach the final level of the trap, they will have expended so much energy that it will overload the circuits of our Secret War. Then they and the trap will be blown to Kingdom Come (or at least the moon), solving what has been an Infinite Crisis across Multiple Earths and will lead to the Ultimate House of Eggman!
Bocoe: (to Decoe) That doesn't sound simple to me, Decoe.
Decoe: Maybe he's using a dicterent(sic) dictionary than you, Bocoe.
Key Events
- Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Cheese, Vanilla and Rouge are rescued from being launched to the moon by Chris and Chuck.
Background Information
- The virtual reality game, as first seen in last issue, is designed after the original Sonic the Hedgehog video game. The second half of the Spring Yard Zone, as well as Labyrinth, Starlight, and Scrap Brain, are featured. At several points, Dr. Eggman is seen "playing" the game with a Sega Genesis controller, while counters for score, time and Rings are seen on his monitor.
- This issue leads into the "EggMoon Saga" of the Sonic X anime. In the next issue, the events of that saga had already happened.
- When Eggman's base is destroyed, Vanilla the Rabbit makes a statement about how she thought the base was already destroyed a while ago. A question of Eggman's base is also made by Chris too. This a nod to the continuity error of Eggman's base being present despite the events of the comic having taken place after it's destruction in the anime. At the ending, Decoe asks "Are we going to have to rebuild the old lab again?", suggesting that Eggman's robots have since rebuilt it.
- At one point when explaining the game, Dr. Eggman mentions that the Robotnik sprite is based on his Grandfather Robotnik.
- As Eggman explains his plan to Bocoe, he references the titles of several major comic-book stories from DC Comics and Marvel Comics.
- Knuckles refers to the fact that they are stuck in this world because of Sonic's fault. This is followed by shots from the Sonic X anime episode 1, but the dialogue was been changed to make Sonic the cause of Chaos control.
- As Eggman's trap is on the verge of activating, he exclaims "Bang, zoom, to the moon!", a popular catchphrase from the classic TV show The Honeymooners.
