- "Savings and Groan"
In the desert outside of Station Square, a race took place between Sonic the Hedgehog and Sam Speed.
In the stands, Sonic's friends cheered him on. Amy Rose was particularly worried since Sonic was losing, and demanded to know why Tails didn't throw Sonic a ring. But Cream protested that Sonic would not want to cheat. Meanwhile, Sonic thought of how much he wanted a ring to help, but then thought of how Amy would be disappointed with him if he cheated. Sonic then took a deep breath and pushed himself harder than ever before to reach a new level of speed and won the race, earning excited cheers from the crowd. Sonic then received congratulations from all his friends while Sam Speed looked on enviously.
Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman complained to his two lackies, Decoe and Bocoe in his fortress, that it was not fair how the pathetic humans of this world expected him to pay for the parts necessary to build his robots. He then revealed that he'd been studying the humans and that they valued little pieces of paper called "money," possibly due to some mass hallucination, and used them to receive goods and services. He then ordered Decoe and Bocoe to go to the ATM machine outside the Twelfth National Bank of Station Square and retrieve some of these pieces of paper, but they were caught by Officer Albright trying to break it open and ran for it.
Later that day, Sonic and his friends returned with Chris to the Thorndyke Estate. The butler and cook, Mr. Tanaka and Ella, gave them the impression that danger was imminent, while really Chris's parents, Nelson and Lindsay Thorndyke had made a surprise return.
While at Eggman's fortress, Decoe and Bocoe reported in their failure, and Eggman showed disappointment before revealing his latest discovery of building that housed money called "banks" and they shall steal all the money inside the one used by the Thorndyke family tomorrow. One of the robots ask why not do it tonight, in which Eggman yelled at him for forgetting tonight was the night he waxed his moustache. He then chose which one of his robots to assist him, and selected Ben-728 Packratbot.
The next morning, Sonic and friends had breakfast with the Thorndyke family, and Nelson and Lindsay announced that they could all spend the day together at their beachside villa at Emerald Coast after a stop at the bank. Sonic decided against it though, saying both the bank and beach sounded boring.
Later on, everyone went in line inside the bank, complaining about how long it was taking, and outside Mr. Tanaka spotted Eggman with his new robot. He ran inside and warned everybody before Eggman and Packratbot come crashing through the doors. Eggman then demanded that they all give him the bank's money.
Meanwhile, Sonic visited Angel Island over the Sapphie Sea where Knuckles the Echidna lives. Sonic asked him to go for a run together, but Knuckles replies he had sworn an oath to protect the Master Emerald and that was what he must do.
Back at the bank, Eggman warned everybody inside that they would be severe penalties for interfering in his plans while Ratpackbot is firing lasers from its eyes. It then corner Nelson and Linsay as Mr. Tinaka attempted to stop it, but only to get whacked in the face by its tail. Eggman then orders Packratbot to destory the door to the vault with the missiles on its back, but Amy intervene and knocked the missiles off course with her mallet, sending them right into Eggman. He then spent a short time deciding on either revenge or money, but eventually settled on revenge and then money.
Luckily, Sonic is running back into Station Square at the time and heard about the robbery from a police car and ran to the bank just in time to save Amy and Tails. He then runs in circles around Patrackbot while it's firing its lasers, only to get hit back by its tail. Tails fumbled in his sack for some rings to give to Sonic, but the impact from Ratpackbot's missiles cause him to drop all of them. Sonic grab one and finish off the robot, but while this was happening, Eggman gathered all the other rings lying around. Sonic pulled off the head of the robot, revealing a rat underneath while Eggman flew away just as the Speed Team arrived.
A while after this, Sonic is visited at the Thorndyke Estate by the President, Topaz and Rouge the Bat to undertake a mission.
Meanwhile, at Eggman's fortress, Decoe and Bocoe enquire about the device Eggman had them hide in a sunken ship, and he said it was "The first step in my plan to rid myself of Sonic the Hedgehog once and for all" while holding the five rings he'd collected.

Background Information
Edit
- Tails line "Go Sonic go! This is no time for relaxation!" is a pun of a line from the main theme tune of the Sonic X anime series, "No time for relaxation!"
- The presence of Doctor Eggman's base tower from the Sonic X anime was originally a continuity error on the writer's part. The base originally appeared in the first saga of the anime, before being destroyed by Sonic and co. in episode 13. The events of this issue however take place much later (a little while after the Chaos saga), so the base should not be still up and running. However a reason for this was given in a later issue, in which Eggman states that his robots rebuilt the base from the ground up after the destruction of the original.
- Because this takes place in a different reality (possible a different zone) from the main series, and therefore a different time, Angel Island should still be called The Floating Island (as it was in the anime it was based off of).
- The issue's artwork, along with others penciled by Tim Smith III, were largely critized by fans as being "atrocious and sketchy".
