- "What's Old is New Again"
In a hidden passageway in Castle Mobius, Queen Sally is traveling down the hallway with her children Manik Acorn and Sonia Acorn. She is carrying a knocked-out Silver the Hedgehog across the hallway. Sonia starts to ask questions on why they are down the hallway. Sally tells them that they are heading to the Panic Room because they were attacked in the morning by The Dark Legion that morning. Sonia wants to go out and ask the enemy to leave, but Sally tells them they have to wait for Sonic. Sonia gets scared and asks where her father is, but she assures the child that he is safe and looking for assistance. Meanwhile, at Argyle's house, King Sonic, Lara-Su, Skye and Melody arrive at the front door. Argyle greets them into the house and bows to the king. He greets the Prowers and Sonic explains the Situation at the castle. Melody and Skye tell them that they are gathering up new Freedom Fighters to save the Castle and their parents, but Sonic is unsure on where to find more Freedom Fighters, especially when most of the planet is partying or away. Argyle has already thought ahead, and Sonic suprisingly meets two figures.
Meanwhile, King Shadow has awakened in a Chaos Syphon by Lien-Da. She welcomes him back while a Dark Presence Agent tests him. He questions what has happened while he has been gone. She tells him about his defeat because of Lara-Su's Chaos Control and that he was sealed for 5 years. He is perfectly tested and he walks off to another room. Lien-Da explains Queen Sally remarried and had twins. She tells him that the world has mostly accepted their stability, but Shadow thinks that regaining control is not enough. He walks into a room where Tikhaos is locked in a bubble. Back in the house, Sonic meets Jacques D'Coolette and Belle D'Coolette. They greet him and bow. Sonic tells them that they need Freedom Fighters to help out with their work to Save the castle. They agree to help and Melody and Skye come along, with Argyle working the Electronics. The Future Freedom Fighters are then assembled, and Sonic instructs them to "do it to it".
Shadow walks up and talks to Tikhaos. She talks to him, explaning that she is very weak and needs energy. Shadow understands her situation, but Lien-Da tries to stop him. She tries to explain to him that she brought him back to return to the stern rule he had, but before she can continue, Shadow grabs her arm and destroys her armband, making her fade away. Shadow then uses a Chaos Spear to destroy the bubble. Outside, the Dark Eyes are looking over the castle, but Jacques, Sonic and Belle destroy a wall, getting the Dark Eyes' attention. Lara-Su, Melody, and Skye blast up to the front room. Lara tells Skye to stop showing off, but Melody explains that he can't fly perfect yet. They head down to the room and find some Dark Eyes. Melody prepares to attack the Dark Eyes, but Lara instructs Skye to go in first, and Skye assaults the members, accidently destroying the monitor. Melody heads back to King Sonic and they take off into the castle. Sonic calls Argyle and asks if he has Sally on the line. He tells Sonic something is going on in the Catacombs, and Sonic contacts Lara. He asks if she can see what's going on, and Skye apologizes for the accident. Lara asks if Skye can shut down the system, but he explains he isn't as his father yet. Lara-Su decides to punch the system and destroy it. They head back and Argyle finally gets word from Sally. Sally explains to him that Silver is waking up and the Kids are fine. He asks what Sally knows about the Catacombs and she tells them that there is many quaratines inside the catacombs. Back down at the catacombs, Shadow gives Tikhaos some energy. The Dark Presence informs Shadow about King Sonic, and he allows them to ignore the order. He purposely gives Tikhaos too much energy and makes her go out of control. The Dark Presence begins to evacuate the Island.
The Freedom Fighters prepare for battle. Sonic and the others are expecting heavy resistance from the Dark Presence, but all they see is The Dark Presence and The Dark Eyes all run down the hallway, escaping the island. Lara-Su questions Sonic if that is a good sign, but the floors start to crack in front of them. Jacques then saves Melody while Lara-Su helps Skye and Belle helps Sonic. They find Perfect Tikhaos outside and prepare to assault the beast.

The Off Panel features King Sonic and Manik Acorn at a table. They are playing checkers. Manik thinks a strategy through and he uses his pieces to get some of Sonic's Checkers and Fairly win the game. He says "King Me" and Sonic makes a joke and hands over his crown. Manik then walks off while Sonic tells to himself that even his take-over wasn't so easy.

This Off Panel is an alternate ending to last issue. Lien-Da walks up to a Fridge and explains that she has found King Shadow. She opens it up and dramatic smoke comes out of the fridge. Instead, he is trapped inside the crisper of the fridge. King Shadow pops out and he promises that everyone will pay dearly for the trouble they "put him in".

- Sally: Mr. Silver was knocked out by the enemy, dear. He's the one who stopped that rocket this morning, remember?
- Sonia: Oh yeah! That was really nice of him!

- Lien-Da: NO!!! Rutan...! (fades away)
(water flooding the castle)
- Sonic: Watch yourselves!
- Belle: You come with me, sire.
- Sonic: Lara, get Skye!
- Skye: I-I-I can fly...
- Lara-Su: (carrying Skye) Let me help this time, okay?
- Jacque: The front gate was one thing, sire.
- Belle: But we'd feel awful about wrecking your front door.
- Melody: (opens door from inside) Come on in! The Castle's fine!
- Sonic: Nice work, kiddo. The defensive grid is down?
- Melody: EEE-HEE-EEK! Skye and Lara-Su are working on that now!
(King Shadow gives Tikhaos chaos energy)
- Tikhaos: No! Too much! Too Much!!! (transforming) Not again! Losing Contrrrol!
- Dark Hands #1: (runs away) Forget this! I didn't sign up for this!
- Dark Hands #2: Dark Presence fall back! Evacuate the Island! King Shadow's going to destroy us all!

- King Sonic, Lara-Su, Skye Prower, Melody Prower, Argyle the Crocodile, Jacques D'Coolette, and Belle D'Coolette form the Future Freedom Fighters.
- Lien-Da is removed from existence in the altered timeline.
- A fusion between Tikal and Chaos known as Tikhaos is released and changed into Perfect Tikhaos.
[edit] Background Information
- Argyle and Jacques' names were misspelled in this issue as Argyll and Jacque, respectively.
- Sonia and Manik's eye colors are switched in the second-half of the issue.
- Jacques and Belle's fur colors are switched from their first depiction on the cover of Sonic Universe #8 and in the comic itself.
- This and the next issue, are currently the only MxYL comics to feature an Off Panel.
- Manik's eyes are miscolored in the first Off Panel.
- When the castle is falling apart and Belle takes Sonic, her arm is missing. So it looks as though Sonic is floating in midair.
