Archie Sonic Super Special Issue 5 was the fifth issue of the Sonic Super Specials

Summary

Story One

"When You and I Were Young, Sally"

The story begins with young versions of Sonic, Antoine, Sally, Rotor and Tails creating havoc inside when Rosie enters to calm them down. Rosie tells them to go outside and play, as Sonic runs fast leaving Tails behind. Julayla prepares Sally for her next lesson, Sally ready to go back inside, but Julayla lets her play with them that all lessons shouldn't be learnt in the classroom. As Sonic shows off with a basketball to Antoine and Rotor, Sally notices a sad Tails. Tails tells Sally that he's sad because he'll never be as cool as Sonic. Sally answers back that everyone has their own talent; her with Julayla's lessons, Sonic's speed, Rotor's ability with machinery and Antoine's 'amazing' French accent. Sonic shows that Tails unique talent is having two tails, so Sonic spins and Tails, causing his tails to spin and give him flight. Tails unable to control his flying ability falls somewhere in the Great Forest. Using Rotor's sextant, Sally, Sonic, Rotor and Antoine find Tails trapped in a hollow tree stump. The weight being too much around it causes them to fall inside with Tails. Scanning the area, Rotor says that this'll be an cool clubhouse, but Sally sees it more like a secret headquarters. Sonic, Tails, Rotor and Antoine coming up with different names to call themselves are stopped by Sally, who wants to call themselves the Freedom Fighters. Sonic sees this has a bit extreme, but Sally sees this as an opportunity to make a difference and discovers what's been happening recently. So Antoine, Sonic, Sally, Tails and Rotor join hands calling themselves the Freedom Fighters. Still stuck inside, Tails uses his flying ability to grab a rope and pull them back up. Sally tells Miles that its a great idea, but Sonic nicknames him Tails, which would be used from then on.

Story Two

"Stop... Sonic Time!"

The story begins in the present where Sonic is asked by a few kids about his shoes. Sonic begins by telling them that his shoes are one of a kind and the closest ones he could find he gave to Tails.

Sonic then tells the story from a few years ago, when Rosie, Sally and Rotor celebrate Tails getting straight A's with a party. Antoine gives Tails a shiny metal as a present, but isn't believed that he fought for the gift. Tails is upset that Sonic hasn't shown up yet, but Sally cheers him up that he should be here soon. Tails then tells Sally that he wants to be called Tails because its cooler. Meanwhile, Sonic meets Merlin Prower, not knowing his identity, and gives him a bag of rocks for a pair of shoes for Tails. Sonic runs back to Knothole, as Merlin reveals himself having no use for rocks, but to have the chance to give Tails a present.

In Robotropolis, Dr. Robotnik reveals his latest creation to Snively, the time immobilizing ray, to freeze everyone in its path. Dr. Robotnik plans to use it on the Great Forest and then send out his robots to roboticize the frozen Mobians. Dr. Robotnik orders his robot Cluck to fire the beam in the Great Forest, but Sonic is unaffected by the beam, because he didn't get to the Great Forest yet. Arriving in Knothole, Sonic notices the frozen Mobians and sets off to get the villagers back to Knothole to stop them from being captured. Sonic finds Dr. Robotnik with Snively and a bunch of SWATbots. Sonic hides Tails' present under some leaves and pretends that he's frozen to get to the machine and reverse the effects. Seeing Sonic as his captive, Dr. Robotnik explains his plans, despite thinking that Sonic is frozen. Sonic unfreezes himself and pulls Dr. Robotnik's moustanche. Sonic runs to the control panel and presses random buttons; Knothole becomes unfrozen and the prisoners escape, with Snively and the SWATbots becoming frozen. Dr. Robotnik orders some of his SWATbots to fire at Sonic, but Sonic lures them to the time immobilizing ray, which causes it to explore and stop its effects.

In Knothole, Sally is about to explain Sonic's adsence to Tails, but Sonic shows up on the scene. Sonic without the shoes asks Tails to close his eyes and races back and gives Tails the shoes. Sally grabs Sonic wanting to know what is this about, but Sonic cracks himself up with by telling Sally that "he'll say if you have the time!" Back in the present, Sonic ends his story and all of the kids have fallen asleep from the story.

Story Three

"Total Re-Genesis"

The story starts with Sonic, Antoine and Sally walking away from a fight with a Combot. Sonic wearing a wrist communicator get into contact with Uncle Chuck to tell him about the situation. All three of them tell Uncle Chuck about their encounter with half of a giant Combot, that was very dangerous. All three have their own versions of the fight. In Sally's version, Antoine and Sonic were hit by the robot's lazer and Sally was the only one conscious. Sally drops the boys and attempts to distract the robot, but is hit with a metal rope. Sally then uses her phaser to hit a nearly hill side and hit a boulder, destroying the Combot. Antoine doesn't believe her story and tells his version of the story. In Antoine's version, the Combot had a full body and giant claws on its fists. Sally and Sonic were unconscious and Antoine was left to defend them. Antoine outmatches the Combot with his sword wielding skills, but the Combot disappears. Antoine follows the Combot's footsteps and gives him the final blow. In Sonic's version, Antoine is hiding behind a rock and Sally is beggin Sonic to destroy the robot, because he's so cool. The Combot now features cannons, which launches a net at Sonic, but Sonic spins around it, destroying the net. Sonic then boosts through the Combot's legs, causing the top half of the robot to float. Sonic uses his buzzsaw attack and destroys the robot in a fiery explosion. Antoine, Sally and Sonic don't believe each others stories, then Uncle Chuck uses NICOLE to hack into his spy satellite to discover what really happened. Sonic is shown in the holographic image as buzzing off the Combot's legs and exposes the circuitry to dirt. Antoine then used his rapier to cut through the Combot's circuitry. With the robot still armed, Sally used her phraser to completely destroy the weapons to destroy the Combot. Uncle Chuck congraduates Sally, Antoine and Sonic with their teamwork, in which they all take credit for their brilliant teamwork.

• The third story in this issue takes place some time after Sonic the Hedgehog #38
• Due to the popularity of this issue, Sonic Super Special #9 brings back the Freedom Fighters as kids. Additionally, the Original Freedom Fighters story arc in Sonic the Hedgehog #142 - #143 takes place before this, showing how the kids got the idea to become Freedom Fighters.
