Summary[]

Story One[]

Lost Paradise: Part One of Three - "The Phantom City"

Vector the Crocodile is swimming in a river when he notices a Legionnaire on the bank. He tries to launch a surprise attack, but the cloaked cultist easily counters his attack and knocks him out, getting back to their task. The Legionnaire, armed with a taser, tries to sneak up on Knuckles the Echidna while he practices his meditation with Archimedes the Fire Ant. Archimedes notices the Legionnaire and helps Knuckles intercept the attacker. Knuckles and the Legionnaire tussle briefly, Knuckles managing to knock their taser away, until the attacker is unmasked and revealed to be a girl.

While Knuckles is dumbfounded, the Legionnaire knocks him away and reclaims her taser. Archimedes spits fire at her hand, causing her to drop it once more, and Knuckles takes the batteries out of the weapon. The Legionnaire introduces herself as Julie-Su and explains that, due to his intense paranoia of Knuckles learning about their plans and technology, Kragok set their base to self-destruct. Julie happened to see Knuckles as he escaped the compound and was compelled to follow him, not entirely sure why.

The Chaotix show up and, after holding off Vector from picking another fight with Julie-Su, explain to Knuckles that the Marble Garden Zone has been experiencing serious earthquakes. Locke watches over the conversation from Haven, worried about his son. However, as he watches Julie-Su argue with the group and force Knuckles to allow her to tag along, he's reminded of when he first met his wife. His father, Sabre, warns that the situation could be dangerous. Locke agrees and prepares for the worst.

Archimedes, Knuckles, and Julie-Su explore the Marble Garden Zone, but the two echidnas can't stop bickering. A massive quake shakes the ground beneath them and a massive city flickers in and out of existence before them. They wander towards itself and find themselves in Echidnaopolis, busy and bustling with other echidnas. Julie-Su is curious about the other echidnas ignoring them when Knuckles' mother, Lara-Le, appears. She greets Knuckles and is upset to hear that he thought she was dead, blaming his father. Suddenly, the city phases out of existence and Knuckles demands that Archimedes explain what's going on, accusing him of not telling him about his people. Archimedes tries to explain that Knuckles isn't ready to learn about these things, prompting to Knuckles ask if his father is responsible for his caginess.

Another quake occurs, tearing apart the ground beneath them. Knuckles nearly falls into the newly formed crevice, but Julie-Su grabs him by the ankle. Knuckles grumpily refuses to thank her when Echidnaopolis appears yet again, punctuated by another, smaller shockwave. They head into the city once more and find the citizens running around in a panic. Unable to get a straight answer out of any of them, they look for Lara-Le. As they search, Julie finds a statue erected in honor of the Guardian Hawking, with a commemorative nameplate identifying him as the "Creator of the Hyper Zone Projector". As Knuckles tries to figure out how this could be related to the current catastrophe, the leader of the Echidna Security Team appears, demanding to know who they are and what they're doing in the city.
