Archie Knuckles the Echidna Issue 30 was the thirtieth issue of the spin-off Knuckles the Echidna comic series.

Summary[]

Story One[]

King of the Hill: Part One of Three - "Bad to the Bone"

An Overlander arrives on the Floating Island and tests out his hunting equipment by shooting a bird. Meanwhile, atop Mount Kobiyunjabo, a giant purple gorilla lassos the rock's at the bottom of the Floating Island and climbs his way to the surface. Having finally made his way home, Monk pounds his chest and boasts that he'll never let an echidna get the better of him, especially not Knuckles.

Elsewhere, Knuckles reads a book that his father, Locke, gave him. He takes the book at face value, assuming that ancient echidnas were advanced space travelers and wondering why they had weird names like "Dave". Catweazle arrives, flustered and barely able to tell Knuckles that a stranger has been testing his weapons on the island and killed his sister, Snowpigeon. Knuckles heads out to find the island's rogue hunter.

While gliding through the forest, Knuckles is struck by a large rock thrown by Monk and falls to the ground. Knuckles recognizes the guerrilla gorilla and thinks back to his childhood. Several years ago, Knuckles was walking through the forest, minding his own business and playing with his yo-yo. Suddenly, a fiendish figure from above snatched the yo-yo. Monk taunted Knuckles, daring him to take back his cherished toy. Filled with righteous indignation, Knuckles attacked the amoral ape. Monk defeated Knuckles, giving him a bear hug until he surrendered, and crowned himself king of the island.

Picking himself up from his fall, Knuckles worries that Monk might be the hunter Catweazle warned him about. Monk stares at Knuckles with tranquil fury, recalling his own terrible childhood memories. Late one night, he was awoken from his sleep, finding himself restrained. A number of mysterious robed figures picked him up and threw him off the edge of the Floating Island and into the ocean below. Knuckles asks Monk if he'd like to put their past behind them, but Monk attacks. They fight, rolling around in the grass, when Knuckles hears someone approaching. The mysterious hunter draws near, preparing to strike.

Story Two[]

"Hiding in Plain Sight"

Julie-Su and her Streaking Pasha, Thunder, search for Knuckles in Rainbow Valley. Instead, they find Espio, Mighty and Ray. She asks if any of them would like to help her search for their missing Guardian, but Mighty explains that he's still trying to get Ray settled on the island. Espio, having nothing better to do, decides to tag along with Julie on her search.

After an hour of searching, Espio suddenly forces Thunder to stop and rushes over to the aid of his fellow chameleon, Barney, who is camouflaged nearby. Barney is startled, telling them to run away before passing out. Julie-Su takes Barney to Echidnaopolis for medical help.

As she rides away, Espio tells the other chameleons hiding nearby that they're safe, prompting them to drop their camouflage. Espio asks a female chameleon, Liza, what's going on. She thanks him for showing up, saving them the effort of looking for him, and takes him to the newly roboticized Valdez. The Robian chameleon tells Espio that there's no one he would rather have at his side than his best friend.
