Summary
Story One
- "Rites of Passage" - Part One
- Deep within Angel Island, Knuckles confronts a series of booby traps. Unsure at first, Knuckles wings it and traverses the dangerous area. Luckily, he escapes unharmed and muses why he is there in the first place. He recounts how an unknown enemy had kidnapped the other Chaotix members and, being taunted by tedious riddles from the fire ant, decides to search for the team. He first encountered Mount Fate, where he remembers how his father spoke of the historic value of the landmark, dating back to when Angel Island evaded certain doom. Knuckles also recollects Edmund and Dimitri's endeavor to return the island to Mobius, only to have the latter become power hungry, absorb the powers of 11 Chaos Emeralds, and become buried under his own ruins.
- Knuckles soon surmises that his adversary may have taken his friends to Mount Fate, and is also using it for his base of operations. Knuckles absentmindedly activates another trap, sending a gigantic boulder rolling his way. He narrowly escapes the peril, being saved by the doorway's insufficient size. Knuckles finds a corridor with multiple doors. He decides to explore the contents of one, only to find a concussive, hand-held blaster, which he decides to take with him. He soon finds a door he cannot open, and decides to use his weapon to make his own entrance. Skulking down the newly discovered hallway, he trails an unknown, taunting voice. He finds the source of the voice: Archimedes, and his friends dining in good condition. Meanwhile, a seemingly powerful figure surfaces from beneath Mount Fate and slowly looms through the bowels of Angel Island...
- A confounded Knuckles slowly evaluates previous events that he encountered while tracking Archimedes, beginning with how the clever insect reused abandoned echidna technology to work for him. Archimedes slightly toys with the rejoined Chaotix by teleporting and spewing fire at the team. Petulant, Knuckles doesn't play along well, sarcastically stating that the ant thinks he is "pretty hot stuff" Archimedes counters by agreeing with the echidna, saying how he saved echidna hides back in his day. The supernatural being that was tailing Knuckles confronts the chaotix, revealing himself to be the thought to be deceased Dimitri transformed into Enerjak. Archimedes warns the Chaotix of the demigod's immense power, but Knuckles disbelives his very presence, saying Dimitri died in the ruins of his dark tower. Enerjak informs that the power of the 11 crushed Chaos Emeralds gave him such power. The Chaotix fool heartedly charge in, but Enerjak just as easily paralyzes the team. Enerjak declares his plan for conquest, and notes that he could "use" the Chaotix to his advantage. He then proceeds to teleport Knuckles and Archimedes, thinking they deserved a "better" fate. The two banished soon-to-become teammates find themselves in a devastating expanse: the Sandopolis Zone.
